History of the
ERAU AcaFellas

History

The AcaFellas are a group of men on the Embry-Riddle campus who perform a wide variety of musical selections without the aid of any musical instruments besides their voices. This group has performed in many venues including, receptions, ceremonies, parties, talent shows, and much more. the mission of the group is to provide quality vocal music to the Embry-Riddle and Daytona Beach communities.

This group started in the Fall of 2002 with five members. Kevin Snyder, from the Student Activities department at Embry-Riddle, searched for men on campus who were interested in becoming involved in an a capella group. The five people he found began practicing and decided to call themselves the "AcaFellas". The original five were Bill Ekstrom, Sam Green, Chris McNenamy, Mariano Rosales, and Kevin Snyder. The first performance for the AcaFellas was during Embry-Riddle's homecoming festivities in 2002. The group performed at the Alumni Reception at the Adams Mark Hotel. The National Anthem, "Brown-Eyed Girl", and "It's Alright" were performed fro a banquet room full of guests. That same weekend the AcaFellas performed in Embry-Riddle's Homecoming Talent Night. The group was very well received by the 800+ audience after they sang "It's Alright" and performed a short skit.

After their debut weekend during homecoming, the AcaFellas' popularity on campus began to grow. University staff and faculty began approaching the group about performing at receptions for university parties during the holidays. This gave the group large exposure and helped spread the word that the AcaFellas have what it takes to make any event more lively and interesting. At the end of the first semester of their existence, the group was asked to perform the National Anthem at the Fall Commencement Ceremony. University administrators were impressed at the group's professionalism and talent at the graduation ceremonies.

At the beginning of the Spring 2003 semester, Kevin Snyder, with the assistance of others, began to write an Alma Mater for the university. When the Alma Mater was completed, the AcaFellas recorded a CD of the new song and distributed it to many university officials. Since this time, the Alma Mater has been widely accepted and embraced. The AcaFellas are one of the exclusive groups performing the Alma Mater at graduation, convocation, receptions, and other special ceremonies.

At the end of the Spring 2003 semester, the AcaFellas held auditions to replace graduating seniors and help add more members. Four new members joined the group in Spring 2003, and three more members joined in Fall 2003.

Since the founding of the group in Fall of 2002 to now, the AcaFellas uphold a reputation of professionalism, extraordinary talent, and charismatic personalities. The AcaFellas are proud to be Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's premiere singing group.
